Las imágenes e inscripciones de tres vasijas provenientes de Guatemala son indudablemente de gran interés. El estilo de la fórmula de rencarnación en las vasijas núm. 49 y núm. 14 del álbum de Michael D. Coe (1973, 1978), permite deducir que ambas pertenecen a un mismo periodo y fueron pintadas en una misma ciudad, llamada en el texto Colinas del Jaguar. Existen fundamentos para suponer que así se denominaba Tikal antes de la conquista española.

The problem of the driving forces behind the “Great Migration” has led to many unanswered research issues: this topic of study has developed a complex historiography of its own; identification of genetic and cultural belonging of the early migrant groups is scarce; how they formed a new cultural space with the pioneering of new territories in not understood; nor do we understand much about how their languages and communication developed; how they developed new technologies and innovations in practice; or how they constructed artificial habitats (architectural and ecological). Finally, there is the problem of integral development of and anthroposystem and integration in it of new experiences of passive and active adaptation technologies. In this chapter, I will briefly discuss the historiography of the problem and then present a novel anthroposystemic model for analysis.

Resumen del libro de "La Casa de las Golondrinas en Guatemala" publicado en la Revista D Prensa Libre. La publicación de este descubrimiento de un mapa estelar que refleja ambos hemisferios del cielo estrellado ha sido traducida a 4 idiomas mayas. La ubicación y morfología de cada imagen en un fragmento de la superficie rocosa de "La Casa de las Golondrinas" representa de manera sorprendente las constelaciones de ambos hemisferios del cielo estrellado: el norte y el sur. Se identificaron las constelaciones de Orión, Casiopea, Pléyades, Can Mayor, la Pequeña Nube de Magallanes, etc., pero lo más importante: los polos norte y sur. Este es el primer y hasta ahora único caso en el mundo en el que un mapa estelar completo está representado en el arte rupestre, es una imagen del cielo estrellado, un planisferio preciso creado hace unos 5 mil años a.C. por un antiguo astrónomo mesoamericano.

A principios de octubre del 2012 se da la iniciativa de crear en Guatemala un Centro Ruso- Guatemalteco de Estudios Mayas Yuri Knórosov, conocido por sus siglas como CEMYK, con el objetivo principal de contribuir a la realización de investigaciones epigráficas, lingüísticas e históricas de las culturas precolombinas en Guatemala.
El centro, inicia el 2013 con uno de sus primeros proyectos arqueológicos en el sitio de Tikal, denominado Proyecto Atlas Epigráfico de Petén, Fase I, que surge con el apoyo del (CEMYK), el Instituto de Antropología e Historia (IDAEH), del Ministerio de Cultura y Deportes, así como de algunos investigadores del centro de estudios mesoamericanos de la Universidad Estatal de Humanidades de Rusia (Moscú), del Programa Corpus of Maya Hieroglyphic Inscriptions del Museo Peabody, Universidad de Harvard, Estados Unidos y de la Universidad de San Carlos de Guatemala.

De las diferentes disciplinas o especialidades científicas que contribuyen a dichos estudios, la epigrafía es precisamente la que investiga las formas de lectura y escritura de dichas sociedades en los restos materiales dejados en inscripciones.
Al considerar la dimensión de los estudios históricos y arqueológicos del área maya vemos que, como fue el caso de numerosas otras culturas del mundo y la historia antigua, en principio fueron malentendidas y solo gradualmente fue posible identificar sus particularidades únicas. Situaciones que actualmente pueden parecer absurdas, como los intentos de vincular la cultura maya prehispánica con el antiguo Egipto, o incluso la incapacidad de identificar los estilos tan diferentes de las culturas mesoamericanas, eran parte de las discusiones académicas del Siglo XIX y XX, siendo que hasta la fecha suponen polémicas cuando se tratan detalles específicos.
Actualmente, sin embargo, puede decirse, con cierta reserva, que cerca del 90% de la escritura maya prehispánica puede traducirse y reproducirse de manera fidedigna. Desde el punto de vista de los estudios históricos y arqueológicos dichos resultados solo fueron factibles por una plataforma internacional de académicos y eruditos de diferentes naciones entre las cuales podemos mencionar a Rusia, Estados Unidos, Inglaterra, Francia, España, Alemania y por supuesto México.
En el curso de los siguientes capítulos se abordará una parte de la historia del área maya, para entender que el desciframiento de la escritura maya prehispánica supuso un redescubrimiento de la historia cultural de Mesoamérica, puesto que en última instancia solo a través de dichos registros fue posible obtener cronologías, fechar eventos y establecer las zonas de influencia entre las distintas regiones.

El libro “La semiótica étnica de Yuri Knórosov” revela un aspecto poco conocido de los trabajos del gran científico ruso descifrador de la escritura jeroglífica maya. Se trata del concepto de Semiótica Étnica, base de su teoría de la comunicación. El libro está dividido en dos partes. La primera contiene un estudio historiográfico que explica las posturas de Knórosov en relación a la Semiótica Étnica. La segunda parte presenta por vez primera la traducción al español de los trabajos en donde Knórosov desarrolla su teoría de la comunicación. Sobre lo mismo están incluidos dos textos de colegas de Knórosov que en su momento dieron a conocer la visión del genio ruso.
Los autores son especialistas en epigrafía maya y manejan el método original de Knórosov. La Dra. Galina Ershova fue alumna de Yuri Knórosov, actualmente es Directora del Centro de Estudios Mesoamericanos de Moscú “Yuri Knórosov” de la Universidad Estatal Rusa de Humanidades y directora del CEMYK en Guatemala. El Dr. Alejandro Sheseña es investigador de tiempo completo en la Facultad de Humanidades de la Universidad de Ciencias y Artes de Chiapas.
