En la historia es muy frecuente que la valoracián equivocada del papel de los personajes histáricos, que han tomado parte directa en unos u otros acontecimientos, persista durante largo tiempo. A veces estos juicios preconcebidos e incluso calumnias, se transmiten a través de los siglos sin que nadie intente siquiera revisarlos. Una de las victimas de tal enfoque preconcebido fue Diego de Landa Calderán, Franciscano, misionero, fundador del estudio de la cultura maya en Yucatán, que Ilegá a la península en el año 1549.

Data concerning the Mayan approach to comets and meteors have till now been available mostly from ethnographical and folklore w u r m which dealt, a~a rule, with various beliefs and tokens. The studies of hieroglyphic texts of the Claseic Period (AD 600-900) have proved that comets and meteors were undoubtedly known in this culture through astronomical observations and their periodicity.

Hay que aceptar que no existe ni una sola área espiritual, cultural, social o política en la vida de esta región, al cual no se dirigiría a al imagen del lejano antepasado. Este tema ya había sido tratado en varios trabajos anteriores que tratan los problemas del sistema de parentesco, los conceptos de reencarnación, así como del análisis de los elementos del sistema político, que llevaron al sociedad Maya en el Siglo X al llamado "colapso" (Ershova 1985, 1997, 2017).
